A curcumin food supplement developed by Dr. Matthias Kraft, MD, presented as a freeze-dried melting pastille with 75 mg of curcumin each. The majority of the ingredients are taken up through the oral mucosa.

Curcumin molecules are sensitive. puraWell uses a patent-pending LIPO-LYO-PHILIZATION process in which the ingredients are freeze-dried rather than compressed and combined with a lipid protection layer. The pastille dissolves in the mouth and releases its ingredients predominantly via the oral mucosa. Because it is freeze-dried rather than pressed, the pastille is delicate — small particles may come loose or stick to the foil, which is a normal characteristic of this dosage form.
Curcumin is poorly absorbed in conventional forms. The following values compare the measured bioavailability of different curcumin formulations, each expressed relative to an intravenous curcumin infusion (reference = 100%).
