Melanin is a natural pigment that occurs widely in nature.
It is found in human skin, hair and eyes, and also in plants, animals and fungi, where it is responsible for dark colouring. Chemically, melanin is a biopolymer a large molecule built up from many smaller units. In Chaga, melanin is a major component and gives the mushroom its characteristic dark, almost black appearance. Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is an unusual fungus that grows on the bark of birch trees in the cold northern regions of Europe, Asia and North America. Unlike a typical mushroom, it forms a hard, cracked, charcoal-like mass and develops slowly over many years. Its dark surface comes largely from its natural melanin content. In the folk traditions of northern peoples, Chaga has long been gathered and prepared as an infusion or tea.
This melanin preparation is presented as an aqueous (water-based) solution rather than in capsules or tablets. The liquid format with a pipette lets you measure the amount drop by drop and stir it into a glass of water, which makes precise, individual dosing straightforward. The solution is ready to use — no mixing, dissolving or preparation is required beyond adding it to water.
